LIGHT

LIGHT OUT OF DARKNESS - NEW BEGINNINGS

Too much light is blinding. Not enough light also blinds. The month of April is just on the cusp of being just the right amount of light.

In shamanic terms, light is a pre-elemental being or deity that with too much or too little under uncontrolled circumstances can lead to soul loss, mental illness. Light is a critical factor in our everyday lives.

Circadian rhythms:  A circadian rhythm is your body’s natural, internal biological clock that regulates your sleep-wake cycle and other physical, mental, and behavioral processes over roughly a 24-hour period. It operates like an internal conductor to dictate when you feel energized and when you feel tired.

How It Works

  • The Master Clock: Your circadian rhythm is managed by a group of nerve cells in the brain called the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN), located in the hypothalamus.

  • Light & Dark: The SCN receives signals about light and dark through your eyes. When it gets dark, it prompts the brain to release melatonin (the sleep hormone); when exposed to morning light, it suppresses melatonin and increases alertness.

  • Beyond sleep, your circadian rhythm influences a wide array of vital physiological functions, including:

  • Hormone production and release

  • Core body temperature fluctuations

  • Digestion, appetite, and hunger cues

  • Cellular repair and regeneration

April is of the Element of Wood - Growth, new growth, inspiration, new beginnings, vigor and vision of the future.  Too much water on the wood could bring about too much growth. It is also important to begin to trim plants for healthy growth.  Growth can also go out of control and wreck havoc--personally, emotionally, mentally and physically--in our world and the natural world.  Look at the politics right now - out of control.  Too much wood.  Wood often symbolizes money.

Wood is the organ of the gall bladder and the liver. The Liver holding the blueprint of who we are becoming and gall bladder is the activator and instigator of that blueprint. Toxins can thwart the action - like alcohol, fatty foods, drugs. It's important to do a gall bladder/liver detox in the spring time to mitigate the spoils of the winter!
